MEET MR GAGA

Batsheva Dance Commpany

"We let go only to bring life and efficient movement to where we let go…"
OHAD NAHARIN

A new way of dancing, a body language, a communicating tool between one's outer and inner world, an invention of Ohad Naharin, a kibbutz boy who became a dancer at the age of 20 and who is the choreographer of the Batsheva Dance Company since 1990. In a word, GAGA is the new craze in Tel Aviv. Gaga classes are displayed all around the city – we recommend Studio Naim on Salame Road, Florentin – and teach each and every one of us how to feel its own body, get into its unknown mysteries, find freedom, peace and lightness.

During an hour long class, you learn how to fall, how to dare, how to be yourself, control free! No mirrors allowed during the classes so you don't even have the appearance pressure! Key instruction:

BECOME A SPAGHETTI IN A POT OF BOILING WATER, [...]MOVE AS IF YOUR FLESH HAD MELTED OFF AND YOU ARE JUST BONES

If GAGA is a lifestyle, GAGA is Art. It is the identity of the Batsheva Dance Company ruling on Suzanne Dellal center for contemporary Dance, a must seen/do in Tel Aviv. Founded in 1964 by Martha Graham and the Baronne Batsheva de Rothschild, Batsheva now flirts with the best international dance scenes, displaying powerful, brutal, bestial, talkative, emotional shows. Respected as well as controversial, Ohad Naharin has never hidden his political views about Israel and translates them in his shows. Famous for his opposition to the government measure to restrain one of his performance in Jerusalem in order not to shock the Orthodox public, he might have in 1998, he clearly expresses his frustration in front of the never-ending Israeli-Palestinian conflict...

Meet Mr. Gaga and the power of his dancing through Tomer Heymann's film released last october and hitting records. Let's go GAGA!
